[Sword & Shield] What are your unrealistic fears for these games?

Mine is only that it'll be too child-friendly and easy like we've seen with previous entries. Every since the mode to 3D the games haven't really felt the same. I haven't felt that joy and rush I've had with Pokemon ever since Gen 5. The only time I ever came close was when ORAS was revealed, and that's only because it was a remake of a game I enjoyed, and the reveal trailer literally just popped up on YouTube out of nowhere. With SwSh I actually feel something, and I don't want to lose that feeling by the games being way too user friendly. From what we've seen so far it doesn't seem that'll be the case, but the fear is still there.

My biggest fear is for it to have a great sales without correcting its flaws or the directors not talking about changing it in future installments. I care for the series in long-term and I'm worried it will probably get even worse than it is now.

3DS games had their flaws - XY was kind of soulless and Gen 7 in general was too plot focused - but they're still redeemable. Gen 8, for now, 5 months before release, doesn't sound like it.

I have the same apprehension. I was extremely hyped for Galar. I watched the Treehouse and just deflated and sank. I haven't finished Shiny and Legendary hunting in Ultra Wormholes, and it almost feels now like there's no point.

At some point, they're going to take away my ability to just keep playing Gens 5~7 with Bank. I'll either have to move to Home or never move old mons into the post-handheld Gens. And once I do move to Home, they can't come back. That's gonna be a bad day.

But I think what scares me most is the non-obsessive Pokémon fans and uninformed kids who aren't paying attention to any of this hoopla, who will buy the games first, subscribe to Home first, move their mons first, and then discover that they're not playable in Galar and can't be moved back. It's going to be much, much worse for those players (and their frustrated parents).

that it will be too easy and we won't be able to switch the exp. share off like in let's go. a simple solution is to reintroduce the difficulty system from B2W2 as that works for everyone.

The only thing that I'm afraid of is that these games would suck. And I mean... suck in every way imaginable. Like, imagine lots of glitches, things like that. Sure, the game might look pretty as far as Pokemon goes, but my fear is that because Game Freak isn't used to developing for a full on console rather than handhelds, that there's going to be LOTS of unpolished areas. I really hope this is not the case, but we'll see.

Also, no substantial post-game is a fear of mine, too. Game Freak has unfortunately let me down in this regard in the past several generations as time and time again they've shown that they cannot really deliver any sort of a meaningful post-game (at least, not since B2W2/Plat/Emerald), so I'm hoping this time around they'll change that. But I'm going to be disappointed if they just do a Battle Maison/Tower re-hash.

We've been able to turn off the Exp. Share since its new form was introduced in XY, so not being able to turn it off is unlikely. Or do you mean something else?

my mistake, i thought the exp. share was an item in let's go that couldn't be turned off when it's actually just the base mechanics of how xp works in those games. either way, i don't like how xp works in let's go as it means you have to temporarily box team members to prevent them from getting overlevelled. i'm assuming the Exp. Share will work as it did since XY as you said, but if they could revert it back to being an item that applies to a single pokemon then that would be much better imo.

Kinda-sorta. The Exp. Share is an item from a code perspective - it's just
- hidden from view of the player
- set to always on. If you hypotetically hacked the game you could make it go off.

It does seem like experience is back in SwSh ala revent previous gen games (gen 6-7 mechanics), and I feel it'd be an accessible item unlike LGPE.

I second Palamon. Worried there won't be a good post game.

That Necrozma and Solgaleo/Lunala will be transferable, but the fusion mechanic will be removed. I didn't think of that until recently. :(
