What Pokémon don't have certain moves you think they should?

I'm sure there are moves that you always wonder why certain Pokémon don't have them. What are some of those Pokémon that leave you thinking they should have this or that?

For me, one that I would give is Thunder Punch to Darmanitan. Not only would it fit well with Sheer Force, but it would probably do it much better than Rock Slide, as it would be useful against Water-types and most of the types Rock attacks can SE are ones Fire already covers (except Dragon/Flying-types like Dragonite, admittedly). And since all three Fire/Fighting starters get it, I think it would make perfect sense for Darmanitan to get it.

How about you? What Pokémon do you think should get certain moves that they don't? Discuss.

The one that always comes to mind is Gengar and Nasty Plot. Not only does the move fit it characterization as a morally dubious prankster, but it would make for an excellent setup move for sweeping Gengar in competitive.

Ampharos should learn Tail Glow, and Snorlax should learn Slack Off. Both for obvious reasons.

Flygon should get Quiver Dance, because it's so elegant and to set it apart from other dragons. Lumineon should get Quiver Dance too, because its fins look like butterfly wings.

The Solosis line should be able to learn Thunderbolt by TM. If they can learn Thunder, they should be able to learn Thunderbolt as well.

Golbat and Crobat have big mouths with sharp teeth, so I think it'd make sense if they could learn Crunch.

Why can't Pinsir learn Megahorn? It has big horns, and Megahorn is a Bug type move, so Pinsir should get it.

Gengar with Nasty Plot would make sense too. The name of the move says all.

Why doesn't Magikarp know Bubble or Water Gun? Clearly, he's capable of using them.

In the anime, maybe. But in game the thing can't even swim that well.

Anywho, why is nearly every Pokemon capable of generating highly toxic substances but at the same time Pidgey, who is based off of pidgeons and topnots and such incapable of learning Peck? And Starmie sends out signals into space with its gem, so why can it only learn Signal Beam via move tutor? And Delphox is CLEARLY based on a black mage, so why can't it use any black magic attacks like Thunderbolt? And Scyther is almost 5 foot tall, is part flying type, has decently sized wings... but can't learn Fly. And Gyrados, the Pokemon who downs cities in an instant in sheer rage... can't learn Outrage except through move tutor.

Another obvious one: Snorlax should have Slack Off. Not only would that move go very well with Curse and Immunity, but it's a Pokémon that eats tons and tons of food and then sleeps. And that is certainly backed up further by its tendency to block paths. And the fact that in all its sprites before Generation VI, it was resting on its back and not standing up.

Well my first wish was Flareon getting Flare Blitz but that's been answered. Same with Entei but instead it got Sacred Fire which is good enough.

Pidgeot should get Close Combat since Staraptor could. They both are big bulky birds.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Garchomp doesn't have Dragon Dance, does it? If it doesn't (I never remember teaching it to this Pokémon before, personally), I believe it would be rather nice if it were to gain access to the move.

I believe it already could learn Swords Dance, which raises its Attack by two stages; while all of this does seem good on paper, it could still be outrun by others before it could take advantage by putting these boosts to work and whatnot, which is kind of disappointing. If it were to get its Speed stat raise alongside (while sacrificing a bit of increase on the offensive side), I feel it would become much more easy to utilize.

Also, I agree with Pendraflare on Snorlax having Slack Off; Slaking (am I spelling its name right?) is very similar to it in many ways, and if this Pokémon is able to pull of such a move, I believe it would be great if Snorlax had some chance to do the same.

I always felt that Venusaur should be able to learn Stone Edge. Sure, it might sound weird on paper, but Venusaur is capable of starting an Earthquake. That being said, the animation of Stone Edge definitely looks like Venusaur material. Most of all, Stone Edge would provide great coverage against pesky Flying- and Ice-type Pokémon.

Then there's Sludge Wave... honestly, is there an excuse for Venusaur to NOT be able to learn this?

(I'm also biased for Venusaur learning Earth Power, seeing that it's a special move and all, but that might... just MIGHT be overkill.)

^Its a fat dinosaur, all it does to do the move earthquake is body slam the ground a few times!

I'd say give the Eevees something, just one more move for them all to share. Hyper Voice, Hidden Power, Signal Beam, Shadow Ball, and +stab move here+, with maybe one or two other moves isn't enough. Two moves one physical, one special.

Something like Rock Slide or Powergem would be good for them to have, or maybe even Earth Power.

To be fair, "body slamming the ground a few times" should (in theory) be able to accomplish this as well:

    (^Stone Edge's animation)

But yeah, with Venusaur's size and weight, I honestly don't see a problem with it learning Stone Edge.

Yanmega's 'dex entry says it's big and strong enough to carry a person on its back... Can't learn Fly.
Yeah, I've noticed that one! I've always been puzzled by that. I always try to teach Fly to Yanmega, but then I remember it can't use Fly lol

Here's one that I think needs a mention: Head Smash or Brave Bird for Aerodactyl. It doesn't have many powerful STAB attacks, but it's screwed over even harder with its abilities. These two would be pretty nice to benefit Rock Head.

Speaking of Head Smash, that's a move I think Rhyhorn's evolution line would appreciate a lot. Rhydon gets Rock Head, and they have Reckless as a hidden ability, which they really don't have much to go with (don't mention Double-Edge). But Head Smash with Reckless off a 140 base Attack would really be something to dig into, even if it ends up being a one-time thing to go with.

One I think definitely needs a mention is that Amaura and Aurorus should get Power Gem. Those blue crystals on it do sorta look like gems, but seriously those icy dinos got screwed over in the special Rock STAB department, where the best option is (lol) Ancient Power... which has a weak base power of 60 and not much PP. Either they should get Power Gem or new special Rock moves get created in future generations.

Flame Burst on the Fennekin line! I don't really need to say why. There's probably a lot of other Pokemon that should have this move as well. (And for some reason, Poochyena/Mightyena, Not-Fire-types, get it.)

Also, I agree with the suggestion that Delphox should get Thunderbolt. Many Psychic-types can be taught Electric-type moves. I suspect the only reason it wasn't is because it's a starter and they didn't want to make it too overpowered against what it's supposed to be weak to. But I say if Gardevoir can learn it, so should Delphox. It already gets Thunder Punch and Shock Wave, so it's not really all that much of a stretch.

Another Psychic-type staple it doesn't learn is Energy Ball. It clearly can use a few Grass-type moves, so this one wouldn't be a stretch either.

And then there's Umbreon. Its Pokedex entry says it can spray poisonous sweat, but all it gets is Toxic. Everything gets that. It should get some more Poison moves. Particularly Acid Spray. And Venom Drench.

The first time I trained Ninetales, I assumed I'd be able to teach it Psychic. It just seemed like it would fit its myth of cursing anyone who grabs one of its tails. Another thing I don't get thats more of an ability thing is why the Magnemite line never gets Levitate as an ability. It's obviously floating so why not? It wouldn't be OP cause it's still weak to fire and fighting.
