I like the Gen 6 and Gen 4 ones the most, though if I had to pick a singular favorite, it'd be Tyrantrum.

Maybe Kabuto? Flips between that and Kabutops. Considers the generation 6 fossils good too.

  • I'm a big fan of Armaldo, even though I've never ended up raising one yet. Armaldo has a great ability and its two types cancel out a lot of each other's weaknesses.

  • Omanyte for sure! Might have something to do with the Japanese Omanyte card a friend traded me back in 5th grade. It was also one of the first Pokémon I connected to its real-world origin after seeing a book about fossils in the library (the first I didn't have knowledge of previously iirc).

When I first discovered fossils on our property nearly a decade ago, I was eager to find a "Helix Fossil" of my own. Almost all of our fossils are flora though, and I was told that finding marine fossils where I was finding terrestrial fossils was unlikely. Imagine my surprise when an ammonoid turned up! While not a true ammonite, goniatids such as this (Gastrioceras?) are related and sometimes defined as "a small type of ammonite." Close enough for me! Maybe not the best preservation but I treasure it all the same. <3

  • I usually don't think too much about favourites with the fossils as usually I find a lot of them to be equal to each other as I find most of them to have similar roles. But overall I'd say my favourite of them all would probably be Aerodactyl.

  • Maybe Rampardos? I love the idea it's just a massive attack stat that smashes into things and doesn't really do anything else. I always loved how absurd it was that it can learn stuff like Fire Blast, Thunder, and Blizzard by TM. I've always wanted to use one cause it just feels so interesting of an idea to me. I'm the person who will almost exclusively use two-handed swords in video games and build glass cannon attack characters with no armour that doesn't raise attack in RPGs so I guess it just appeals to me.
Tyrantrum is a really solid design I'm glad to see more love for it. Cradily is also one I've always loved, it feels like an alien and having it be an aquatic plant with a really awkward type to deal with always made me feel like it was so confusing and unique to me.

  • Aerodactyl always had a cool design in my opinion. It's simple, yet threatening. And I love both Tirtouga and Amaura too.

  • My favorite fossil Pokémon is Armaldo from gen 3, it's the first fossil i've ever revived and i used him through the entire game.

Aurorus definitely has my heart! One of my favourite pokemon designs from generation 6! However, I'm a huge Lileep/Cradily fan as well. I was extremely close to buying a Lileep plush when I was at the Pokemon Center in Tokyo, however, I refrained from doing so only because said plushie couldn't stand on her own.

    Aerodactyl and Lord Helix.
I love Armaldo's design but I wish he sucked less in battle :(

  • Such a good question, all the fossil-mon have such great designs.

As far as aesthetic goes, I really love Amaura/Aurorus, it's just a shame they're not really usable because of their type combo and stats. A 4x weakness on a slow 'mon, even if Tera is possible, is just too crippling. So I've never even used it but it looks excellent.
But with the Amaura and Tyrunt lines, we finally got some actual dinosaur-based fossil 'mon (Aerodactyl is an outlier because... it just is. It's more like a pseudo-legend that happens to come from a fossil).

Otherwise, I have to say I really love the original bois, Omastar and Kabutops. I recently replayed FireRed and used Omastar as my Water-type, and... it kicked ass. In the right circumstances they're super good Pokémon.
