What kinda degree or qualification are you going for? If you've already completed study, how relevant is it to your daily life/your job? If you weren't doing what you were doing now, either in study or work, what field would you try instead?

  • have a bachelor's degree atm. considered pursuing a master's since i get free tuition through my job, but i really dislike the education system and studying as well as giving presentations, so i could never motivate myself to do it. if i could go back in time to choose a different career path though, i'd have definitely opted for engineering or computer science/something within programming, since they are very stable careers that allow you to work almost anywhere. except i am not good at math....:<

If you've already completed study, how relevant is it to your daily life/your job?

a bit, but not really? i majored in communications with a focus on design and digital media. the focus isn't very relevant to my currently working in a uni processing enrollment verifications (among other things) but the communication part i guess is? though a degree as broad as communications can be applied to almost anything i suppose. part of why i wish i didn't go with it and instead chose something more focused.

i do sometimes make banners and posters for the office though, which i can capitalize on as experience! but not very often. still, it's nice when your co-workers see you as the design person and feel comfortable going to you for things like that.

  • I've done half my education degree and will be going back to that once my health allows for it. It's not particularly relevant to me right now since I can't do anything, but it's needed to get into teaching and some of the stuff I learned proved useful in my work as a coach too.

If I had to go into a different field I'd go for either psychology or politics.

  • I dropped out of college back in 2011. Crippling anxiety and depression following a breakup and subsequent terrible decisions afterward caused me to stop going to classes, and my GPA subsequently plummeted. I tried going back to school in spring of 2012, but it didn't go well, either. I am lucky that my current role in my company does not require me to have a degree. It does offer a tuition reimbursement program, but I just don't know if I have the time or energy to work full time and do classes in the evenings/on the weekend ~_~

  • I have a bachelors degree in theology and philosophy (combined honours). I knew going into this degree I wasn't getting a job directly out of it, I just had a genuine interest in those fields (specifically eastern ways of thinking on the theology side). But astoundingly my degree has allowed me to find work in the job I'm currently in, just from having one, so I actually can say it's helped me career-wise haha.

The plan was to do a masters somewhere in the UK sometime in the future after I earned enough money to travel for a long while and have a decent amount left over for the masters from my job in China. Unfortunately I didn't realise that which fees you pay in the United Kingdom, home fees or international fees, depends on residence status and not citizen status. Because I've lived outside of the country for too long I have to pay international fees if I want to study in the United Kingdom again...or live there again for three years (not happening) to quality for home fees again. Three years.

Anyway I may still do a masters. But if I have to pay international fees I'm going to be an actual international student. I would never pay international fees in the UK out of principle. I found a decent degree I have an interest in, in a university in Cairo. But I'd want to actually live in the Middle East first before deciding I definitely want to do a degree in that field so I would do a couple of years work in Saudi Arabia first since the money is good there. Also I'd need a base level of standard Arabic for this particular degree so obviously living in the Arabic speaking world would help with that.

  • I have an AS degree in IT and some credits completed towards a bachelor's!

Pausing school atm because of a lot going on in my life for 2019, plus I'm more down a path to pursue certifications before a degree as well

I have an MSc in Forensic Accounting that I did because I had absolutely no idea what direction I wanted to take my life in once I finished my BA so I thought I'd explore a more specialised field, because I really enjoyed the Law modules in my undergrad and I've always been interested in Psychology.

It's not even remotely relevant to my current work and honestly I regret doing it because I could have used the money for something else...like a deposit on a house.

I think if I could go back and do it again, or do something different now, I'd explore Law some more. I very nearly switched to a Law degree after my first year and whilst I don't regret pursuing Accounting - which IS relevant to my current job - I did find Law very interesting. Failing that, maybe some kind of degree that would allow me to pursue a career in writing or teaching.

I'm about 4 months from graduating with my Bachelors in theatre and communication. Considering that I'm going into a well-paid customer service job, theatre is probably not gonna be super useful and comm is. Then again, as a stage manager I got a lot of practice managing huge personalities, so...

  • Right now, I'm just trying to learn Finnish and achieve fluency. It's an extremely hard language, and I'm keeping any other studies I wish for on hold until I've mastered it.

I dropped out of college. During the time, my family lost the house I grew up in to the bank shortly after my grandfather passed away so the mortgage wasn't being paid so they were "homeless" for a little bit. By the time I dropped out, the living situation was resolved, however.

Then my dad had social services involved which made the stress of that grow. I was away at school and couldn't focus. It was all I thought about. I skipped classes a lot. I was always anxious and depressed, though these were situational rather than clinical. Then decided to come back home. Even though me being there wouldn't do anything to improve the situation, I still felt like at least I would know everything was okay.

I was in college for graphic design, though I don't feel like I need a degree for that. I am involved in web design now and plan on moving into that as a career path after I finish the projects I am currently working on. I am considering getting a qualification from some programs I have been seeing for some languages and following a JavaScript course. Unfortunately, I can't find any that are actually at least a little affordable. I can't really afford to be spending much.

Lately I have been missing school, though, and I'm considering going back to a community college. I took some classes at the community college a few years ago, and I kinda just miss it.

I am deeply unsatisfied with my life in the educational / career / financial aspect.

I have a bachelor degree in biochem, a master in organic chem, and doing a phd in applied physics. don't ask me how that happened lmao. my education is highly relevant for my current occupation - well except for the "bio" stuff lol. still fun knowledge to have though.

if i could turn back time i might try to become a journalist or other write-y job instead. but idk.

  • I have two bachelors (journalism and audiovisual arts), a master in economics applied to journalism, and I'm doing a PhD in economics. I work in a newspaper writing about economics and politics so, um, I don't think I can find a better match for my qualifications even if I tried.

When I was a little kiddo I wanted to do maths? And I kinda liked physics a lot? But after one year studying chemistry/physics -my last year at higher school-, I snapped and I was like "hey I think my love for writing is bigger than for this" and applied for social sciences baccalaureate, being the only person in my school (!) to take up both economics and history as specialities. My maths teacher was very disappointed and everybody asked my mom why didn't I become a scientist or an engineer (one of my friends did and now he makes twice as much as I do, yay) but honestly I love my job?? So um, yeah, no regrets here.

if i could turn back time i might try to become a journalist or other write-y job instead. but idk.

I mean, there's clearly a parallel universe in which we swapped careers.

i'm currently studying psychology, computer science and religious studies at a level. i have a uni offer to study early years education & become a primary teacher which is something i'm really excited for tbh, i've volunteered with both receptions and year ones (so like.. 4-6 year olds) and it's so rewarding and fun
