Question Of The Day #17: What is your opinion on the status of the Member Encyclopedia?

The Member Encyclopedia is an area of PokeCommunity that is specifically designated for supporters of PC only; it is a forum that allows PC supporters to familiarize each other with one another more, as well to provide some kind of incentive for donating money towards the well-being of the site. However, in recent months, the Member Encyclopedia has become quite dead due to the lack of activity and/or lack of interest. Curiously enough though, a fellow Battle Server Mod, Powalen suggested this idea:
I'd make the AMA forum public since it is super dead and serving very little purpose as of now.
This overall posts some very interesting questions. Do you believe that, for the sake of the forum, that the Member Encylopedia should be open to the majority of PC? Or do you believe that the forum should stay exclusive to strictly PC Supporters? Are you an avid user of the Member Encyclopedia? If not, why not? Do you believe that the perks you obtain through your tier justifies the amount that you've donated towards PC? If not, what kind of changes do you think could or should be made to make it so?

Feel free to discuss all entities of this topic down below.

I do have a topic there, but no one asks me anything. :( I guess I'm not very interesting or something. I do think there should be more attention towards it though. I think the problem is that there's not a lot of supporters who mingle there. It has gone a bit more popular though from what I've seen.

I would like to be able to use the Member Encyclopedia more. I've literally had 2 posts since starting my thread. I think there is a lot of people against making it public, myself included probably. Maybe it could be made open for all members who are above a certain post count AS WELL AS the supporters? Just an idea.

It's a dead section, that's for sure. It'd be cool if we do what Northstar suggested, by opening the limits a little by giving users with a certain post count milestone access, and maybe that'll liven it up a bit.

The admins did actually implement that change recently, iirc. Non-supporter members with 3000+ posts have access to the Member Encyclopedia. Unless I'm imagining **** again.

That said, I'd rather not have the Member Encyclopedia be open to all members. I can't really explain why, but I don't like the idea of every random member on PC being able to look at my thread for some reason. Not like I have some terrible secrets stored in there, but still.....

Besides, the Style Studio is way more dead than the Member Encyclopedia.

I think it would be great if the Member Encyclopaedia were to be open to non-supporters who have little infractions and have been active on PC for some time, besides higher post counts.

I consider myself to be rather active on PC, but I have so little posts. Oh well...

I think it's an excellent way of getting to know PC users better, although I still haven't gotten around to making a thread xD

Perhaps make it so that non-supporters can view and reply to threads but not make a thread themselves? That'd expand usage whilst still making it something of a VIP perk.
Although that wouldn't help people with Zekrom's problem.

Also, I was able to view the encyclopedia before my a few days before my supportership came through along with the rest of the VIP section.

Naaa.... If it became open to all members (and non-logged in people), I might delete my thread. I feel more comfortable with replying to questions when I know that not just anybody on the web can see it. Seriously.

That's more just because you're already being selective by having a forum dedicated to solely web designers, and then being even more selective by limiting it to supporters only. If anything, that forum should be open to the entirety of PC.

Mmm. I've been meaning to make a thread there for quite some time now, just never got around to doing it. I probably wouldn't make a thread if it was open to the entire forum, though. xD

I tried to push for the forum to be made public when I was on h-staff but they were having none of that.

Maybe enough time and people have passed that they'll change their mind.

I took it upon myself to manage the Member Encyclopedia and can say for certain that it is quiiiite dead.. :( Makes me sad because the concept is really interesting and has a lot of potential if done the right away; would be nice to have a go at it being open to everyone (but maybe not viewable to unregistered members?).

Hardly do I update my own AMA topic too ahaha. Got asked quite a few questions but after a while it died down.. hard when the audience is so limited and not much is being done about that. Even the VIP Forum was fairly dead until these QOTD threads started being posted. Psh.

ppl post in my thread pls

It pretty much is a dead section like the VIP Forums with the exception of a few threads.
I revived my thread like 6 times and everytime it only got 1 question which saddens me and gives me thought never to revive it again :P

This might a little odd but...

I say we just wipe away all the threads of the Member Encylopedia and start fresh. Everyone gets a new thread as I'm sure no one really know each other that well. Keep the posting consistent and I think that can overall create a lot of new activity.

Love this idea. Most of the forum is inactive/dead threads with outdated information anyways. A lot of threads have too many questions to look through before asking new ones. Doing this would give those interested to make new fresh threads. I'd love to see it happen!

Yeah, maybe if I get a little more feedback from the community I'll run this by Hq and see if we can take off with this!

I had a thread opened there quite a while ago but i never got asked anything so I just left it alone and forgot about it. Honestly I am one who is against opening it to the general public. I believe it should be open to only those who are PC Supporters or over 3,000 post. We shouldn't even change it for members who have been here a long time. I just saw a member who has a join date of 2009 with only 79 post. Why would we want people who put so little effort into being apart of the community and have been here so long to be able to open a thread here just because of when they joined.

The only possible way I would say go ahead and open it up to Non Supporters is if Non Supporters could only make replies to ask questions but they couldn't make there own threads.

I think starting fresh is a great idea.

Member Encyclopedia needs more love, been meaning to post there and ask some questions but ehhh time etc. It's a great way to get to know more members, as well as staffers that made a thread there. I believe it's open to the public with a certain post count requirement. Figured that way we'd get better activity.

I get why they would want to wipe the forum and start clean, but I just wouldn't want to wipe the threads of those that had theirs created too early, especially if they already got a fair amount of questions.

While a fresh start may seem like a good idea, I still think the section is doing well in its present state but opening it to the public can help improve activity further since not everyone may be active enough to reach the required postcount, and not everyone is capable of donating to PC.
