Chit-Chat: a good ol' fashioned DCC!

There's maybe 5 days of a year where you can comfortably wear sandals here.

We've had on off snow for the past week and its still pretty cold here. And i like to troll with scam callers.....I'm weird like that 😂.

And YAY!! The badges I made have finally arrived 😁

You're not, my step father and I did that all the time, my mom just hangs up on them.
It's cooler here this morning, -1 celsius. Can't wait till double digits.

Okay... one of the most bizarre things I've ever experienced happened yesterday! This might be pretty long depending on if I can even find words to describe it!

I was extremely weak and tired after medical treatment, so me and my partner stopped off at a post office in the last village on the outskirts of the city that has any shops, to see if I could grab something to eat to get my strength up, before heading out into the wildness. The post office was a bust, I had some scraps of pastry and a bit of egg from a "quiche" that was actually a pie, before I realised it was full of meat. Anyway, that's not important!

As I was wrapping it up to thow it in a bin, my partner said "The car! The car beside us is moving!" The parking area is raised from the road, and the empty car had started slowly rolling backwards towards the road. Behind us was a bigger slope where it was about to pick up speed, then a busy road, then a very busy footpath outside the post office / village shop.

I scrambled out of the car as fast as I could, and ran after the car. I stupidly tried to slow it down as much as I could - I'm an idiot, I could have been minced - and eventually halted it's momentum before it hit anyone, or anything.

The only thing stopping it at this point was me behind it, in the middle of the road, holding it in utter agony. Eventually a woman appeared! I'm saved!

Now starts the bizzare section of the story!

It wasn't her car! She mumbled something about the keys and "still in the shop" so I now assumed it was a family member of the actual owner!

Nope!

I didn't know this woman had nothing to do with the car and I was so relieved to see her! I was in absolutely excruciating pain, but she had never seen an automatic before and couldn't get it in "gear" or do anything else to halt the car. I motioned to put the handbrake on, but she said it already was, it must have failed somehow. I assume she tried the break pedal, I guess that didn't work either.

My partner knew it wasn't her car, because she had seen an old lady park up in it. She later told me that key lady had been setting off in her own car as I ran after the runaway vehicle, and nearly hit it, but got stopped in time after she spotted my partner waving and shouting at her. Apparently, she then went into the post office to alert the owner, who then gave the stranger her keys to deal with it while SHE FINISHED HER SHOPPING!!!

I was desperately trying to motion to my partner to bring me a face mask out of my handbag, but she couldn't figure out what I was saying since I was pretty much non-verbal by this point, and she didn't want to leave our car unattended because she didn't know where I had left the keys. The ignition was the answer to that one! Oops! 😅

She did end up getting a face mask to me just before the end though <3

So, I'm still the only thing halting this car from smashing into the pavement and wall, but now it has a body in it. My partner said she seen the old lady who owned the car, come to the glass door look out at all the chaos, and yet again, GO BACK TO FINISHING HER SHOPPING!

Eventually, and I do mean eventually, the old woman appeared, pottering along without a care, carrying her shopping bag, and then slowly started putting her shopping away through the back door, WHILE I WAS STILL HOLDING THE CAR! Then she walked round behind me, got into the drivers seat WITHOUT SAYING A SINGLE WORD to either me or the lady she had handed the keys to, and drove off, nearly hitting that lady's parked car in the process! I tried telling her about the brakes but she didn't even acknowledge me!

Key lady was gobsmacked, and couldn't believe what she'd just seen. We literally just stood in shock for several minutes before either of us could even think about going anywhere.

I... I just...

WHAT THE FUDGE SNICKERS!????? Did you manage to get the number plate because I'd definitely report it because if you hadn't been there there could have been a serious accident

That...sounds like an experience. xD

I hope you're alright. I imagine holding a car from rolling away must be very hard especially if its for a long unspecified amount of time. Maybe check in to a doctor in case you got hurt in some form?

You definitely did someone a huge service, though, even if they didn't acknowledge it and for that you need to be praised! :)

What the absolute fuck? Do you know the make of the car or the license? Especially if the breaks wouldn't work, she's putting others in danger too.

But as Megan said, you did a good deed and potentially saved lives. Please get some rest and get checked out!

I was taking our dog out to use the bathroom for the night, I noticed these very loud squeaky noises coming from across our path. I was curious and wanted to investigate. It was a beautiful large red fox watching us from a distance. Dog wasn't reacting, but I quickly backed up and took her inside.

I have no idea if a fox would attack a dog, but I didn't feel comfortable hanging around to find out.

We have a cute clown who lives across the street, when we stop for our nightly chats i say taking the dog for the 'bathroom' because it makes him smile.

Thanks so much everyone 😊

If it had got up to full speed before I stopped it, I wouldn't have stood a chance tbh. I'm very, very, weak physically rn, it was basically my body weight stopping the momentum, that's it. She's a very lucky woman.

Unfortunately none of us wrote down the plate, we all just assumed the owner would deal with it like an actual real human being when she came out, gosh were we dumb. I wish one of us had got it to inform the police :(

I'm not very well after it tbh, hence my lack of activity.

Putting this short section in spoilers because I don't wanna be the girl who brings nothing but misery:

Hope you're OK Ash. Do take it easy.

Is it worth checking to see if there was any security footage recorded at the time?
