Suggestion: Can we just remove the "minimum characters per post" limit?

What does this do in the long run? It can be easily bypassed and I feel like it's enough if we could just provide an explanation to prevent spam and one word posts. But that's just me.

Yeah because sometimes all you want to do is ask a person, "why?" when you're curious about their post, and then you gotta stretch it out just to fit the limit.

I understand the concept but 25 words is to high a minimum, especially if your making a reasonable post that say only needs 24 characters.
There have been times when I have had to beef up posts which unnecessary words just to get it so the post will be posted.

I was gonna ask for something similar to this, I was gonna suggest not making posts count thus making the limit useless in the welcome lounge or whatever it's called so posts like "welcome bro!" would have been ok. But yeah, this works too XD

I think that there would be certain rules though in forums to prevent spammy messages like "Welcome!" in TWL or "Happy Birthday!" in celebrations with nothing else to them. Those forums need more post construction and should always enforce the 4/25 rule imo. I think the suggestion here is to eliminate it elsewhere but I may be wrong.

I've wanted this removed for a while because in certain threads(such as the DCC threads) you want to make a witty one word or gif response and adding filler sometimes ruins that :(

I surely know how much the 4/25 limit bothered me in C&M's What Are You Listening To thread because sometimes when I tried to post, I had to be forced to either write down a comment or put in some sort of filler.

Also, as mentioned above some sections can be prone to spammy messages with no extra construction or foundation to them. As for what I want, maybe keep the limit in some sections (such as The Welcome Lounge) while others can make do without it.

I don't think it's an unreasonable rule, because it's often not hard to think of 25 characters to put in a post. And if you want to spam, we have Forum Games and Pokémon Trivia for those.

Just because it's under 25 characters though doesn't always mean that it's spam. Some responses legitimately only need one word. I do get what you are saying though about it being easy to make it 4/25.

As a user who likes to post witty GIFs as responses to threads, I don't want to have to type out a response to fulfill a rule that otherwise shouldn't require it.

My opinion? Drop the rule and allow staff discretion to decide whether or not a post is deemed as spam. We're all responsible enough to report posts that are questionable at best, as it's really not that difficult to determine the difference between a quality post and a spammy one. If there's a significant drop in quality of posts - and I mean significant - then we can revert back to the current rule. Otherwise, I feel like this should be given a chance.

I don't think the rule should be dropped from the entire forum.

I'd rather see us allow specific sections to do away with said rule, rather than it be rolled out across the board. I think GIFs and one-word replies are funny and I use them fairly often where I'm allowed to, but the majority of areas of PC promote discussion and allowing GIFs/one-word replies degrades the quality of post, especially if someone's looking for real discussion.

Gav alluded to it earlier but I brought it up in a thread in HQ for voting and discussion. Right now we're looking at removing it as a forum-wide rule, with the possibility of allowing individual sections to choose whether or not to enforce the rule.

I just want to say that I feel some posts in the RPC are way to short as it is, so I'd like to see a strict word/character limit continue to be imposed on that section.

Relevant sections should have every cause to override said rule if it goes through.
