Ever named a pet after a Pokémon, or know someone who has?

I've seen a lot of pets online over the years that were named after Pokémon - Eevee and Pikachu seemed to be the most common names in my experience. Have you ever named any of your pets after a Pokémon? Maybe you know someone who has? If you've never done it, would you be open to naming one of your pets after a Pokémon, and which one do you think it'd be?

I think I recall my cousin telling me that his ex's cat was named after Lickitung, and I talked to someone online years ago that once had a cat named after Skitty, but I don't think I'd feel right naming a pet after a Pokémon. As names of species, it would be comparable to naming a hamster "Raccoon" or a horse "Giraffe" imo. I've heard pets named after other animals (even my family has had a few, like Bear and Ladybug), but I'm not a fan of this trend.

I have named a Pokémon after a pet though! My Shiny Eevee from VC Gold is named after my cat Ciel since they're both grey and fluffy. When I'm using my Eevee and he's in the room, sometimes I look at him and think "Yep, he's an Eevee."

EDIT: Coincidentally, Ciel's name does sound like Seel.

There was a dog we adopted by around the time I was playing Pokémon Platinum for the first time, actually called Maggie but sortly after nicknamed Bibarel because of the brown fur, physique, and other similarities that resembled a Bibarel.

Bibarel still reminds me of her so that's actually why this Pokémon is kinda special for me, despite all the memes around it.

    Lol, that's so cute. 😊

I named my cat "Gladi" taking a Digimon (Gladimon) as landmark because of the grey metallic colour of its fur which reminds of an armor.

I think Bibarel is a cute looking Pokémon as well.

I named my dog after a pokemon I nicknamed, does that count?

I say I wouldn't, but I kinda did. Back in elementary school we had a class pet, a cockatiel. This was in 1999/early 2000 - the height of the initial Pokemon craze in the US. We took a class poll to name him, and he had a yellow face and orange cheeks like Pikachu, so that got voted to be his name. I'm pretty sure I voted as such. I don't remember what happened, but he eventually was taken into my home and became my pet. We called him "Peeky" throughout most of his life after bringing him home. lol

There are cockatiels that are all yellow with the orange cheeks. I can imagine many cockatiels have been named Pikachu over the past couple of decades!

No, i haven't named any of my pets after pokemon. I have actually done the reverse, and named my pokemon after my pets. In BW2 I had a Lucario named for my late Cinnamon German Shepherd. My Arcanine in Ultra Sun is inspired by my Great Pyrenees Prince. The Galarian Meowth i have in Shield is named after my cat.

I don't personally know of someone who has named their pets after pokemon, but don't disapprove of the practice, so long as the animal is happy, healthy, taken good care of and loved, i would not focus on something subjective like a good name.

I don't know if I would ever name my pet after a pokemon, I toyed with the idea, but never seriously did it. If i ever named a pet after a pokemon though it would be because I really thought I saw some quality in the cat or dog that reminded me of the pokemon, so I can't say what I would name a theoretical pet. The name for me would ultimately just depend on what the animal was like.

I haven't but Eevee or Skitty are appropriate names, I think. Or something like Snorlax... Oh wow that would have been a great name for one of my cats. The other one could have been Eevee or Skitty, both fit.

regardless of what you name a pet, 90% of the time you're gonna call it something completely different anyways, like "fatsy" or "boopsnoot" or "sir pawspaws of furrington"

While I've never named a pet after a Pokemon, when I was younger, around the time Hoenn games come out, my mother would always take me to school and almost every day we would pass a Great Blue Heron down the road from the school every single morning. I eventually named it Peeko after Mr. Briney's Wingull.
