how private are you?

Do you let anyone use your phone/laptop? Do you go out of your way to make sure your life, particularly your online life, stays a secret?

I don't particularly like it when people need to use my phone or laptop (tbh just in case I have something embarrassing open), but nor do I really mind, and I would never be like "NO you can't use my things" to anyone, unless they're like a complete stranger.

For the most part, people really just check/do whatever they need to do and I trust they won't actively snoop through my things, so it's all good. I just don't like it when I have some weird tabs open or maybe a private chat open that their eyes would be drawn towards.

Why are you asking so many questions?

Jokes aside, I'm generally a very secretive and private person. I'm pretty open about things like my health and my beliefs but when it comes to interests, relationships and my day to day goings on I'm pretty closed off. I guess, weirdly, it's the stuff most people are open about that I'm private with and the stuff mot people are quiet about that I'm open with. I've always been the sort to keep a lot of secrets close to my chest though.

I actively try and make sure that I'm not giving away anything that could make it easier to trace me, or whatever. Because it all adds up, you know. Your name is William? You live in Ohio? Parents are dead? You have six dogs and a little sister who has terrible allergies? Right, so anyone bloody-minded enough could use all of that to find you. And it may feel unlikely that anyone would give a damn, let alone go through all the effort, but lunatics don't get tired. Not that it's just about lunatics...

So yeah, I don't tell anyone anything. Information can be weaponized. I'm no different in real life, either, because that's where it really counts.

Sometimes my parents want me to help them look over bills or something online, so when that happens any tabs I don't want them to see I closed those first. As far as I"m aware though they haven't looked through my history and such.

As for keeping my online life a secret, for the most part yes. I did let it slip to one or two people that I write, though I was very vague about it like "I'm writing a crime drama" kind of thing. Besides Facebook, I haven't let my irl friends know my other social media.

not liking people using my phone/laptop is different to being private imo
given how essential contemporary phones are to maintaining professional and personal relationships while holding access to basically everything we deem necessary of accessing immediately, i consider it respectful to just leave that object alone and not pry into what's taking place on it
it's not about privacy as much as it is putting a roadblock in the expectation of instant accessibility a lot of people seem to take for granted

of course, this absolutely reads like someone trying to justify their personal space by clutching at straws and perhaps it is that considering how i get considerably irritated if someone, say, exits the funny photo i showed them and tries to go elsewhere on the phone

Sis uses my phone only when she has to for music. I trust her not to delve into my personal life (not that i have one that she doesnt know about). As for my laptop i have nothing secretive on it so I'd allow her on that too. My mom actually has my old laptop because even if she wanted to she wouldn't know how to get to anything private (if i even have anything private on it.)

If i had more sensitive stuff on my laptop and phone I wouldn't let anyone touch them but quite honestly i don't.

I don't really have an online life anymore. I post on Reddit and favorite things on Twitter.

I'll delete my browser history before I let someone use my phone but that's pretty much the extent of how private I am with letting people use my phone. I don't need them knowing what kind of messed up porn I watch.

HELL NO. I won't even let people touch it. Though, it's not because I'm a private person. I'm like this with anything of value. My phone, my iPad... whatever. Like, the minute you get onto my laptop etc... I'm demanding you to get off about five seconds later. I just... no. I don't care what people see about me because I'm usually pretty open about things that I do online.

I wouldn't lend my phone/laptop to someone. I don't trust people not to go snooping just from past experiences. I lent you my phone as a favour and you think it's acceptable to go have a look around afterwards...and don't even think it's a big deal? Nope. That's me never being comfortable with doing that again. It's not even me worrying about whoever finding incriminating stuff. It's just, in my view, a complete violation of privacy if you do anything with a persons phone/laptop other than what you asked to use it for. Unfortunately it seems common practise to do just that.

As for online life I don't really have one I think. As far as my socials go I don't really post my opinions on anything and my facebook does have very strict privacy settings. That's more for future employers snooping and judging me off of my socials than worrying about being FOUND.

Lastly on forums: I don't really care if someone from my real life "finds out" I post on a forum. The internet is so ingrained into everyday life these days that I don't think it is weird or stigmatising to be talking on an online community at all.

when it comes to my online usage, I really do not care anymore. i used to hide everything. i kept my 'double life' a secret. but now im much more open and i even share stories from the online realm sometimes.

additionally i really dont care if my friends look through my phone either (minus my social media profiles). they know me well enough

Absolutely NO ONE is allowed to even touch my phone. Or my laptop. I'm private about a lot of things. Not everything, of course, though. idc if you see my net history. All I do is look at merch, go on Twitter and watch anime, so.
