If we got an entire generation where all the non-starter creatures were based off inanimate objects...

I dunno.. I feel like in a way that would force imagination and variety back into Pokémon designs by limiting the focus of creation by so much, ya know? Like, they'd have to be good ass, interesting designs to all be inanimate objects and get signed off on Japanese testing groups. And we have Pokémon like Rotom and Sinistea that are cool af.

Then again historically they suck so idk.

I'd be interested! This would be straying so far from the typical Pokémon, and I would lice to try it out and see which ones I get especially attached to.

We could end up with little variety yeah, but if I could possibly get my cute dust bunny or sentient shirt that puts itself on me, that would be awesome lol.

Idk all I can say is that as an artist I work best under pressure -- and having such a limited pool of resources to choose from that I know might be considered actual Pokemon would make me work my ASS off to get good designs out.

I'd be completely fine with it. I still don't know why people hate object based Pokemon so much, they're not even that bad. u_u

Will attempt to explain. Explores dark caves, sandy shores, and tall grass. Expects to see creatures similar to those in nature: birds, rodents, fish, reptiles, and so on. Imagines befriending a spiky shrew, petting it, and teaching it how to battle.

Feels off when applied to Pokemon like Palossand and Chandelure. Resembles the object too closely. Fails to jump from "object" to "creature". Why would you pet a keyring? Never feels alive. Breaks the suspension of disbelief.

Escapes this trap with Pokemon like Geodude (sort of). Gave it more than just eyes and a mouth. Stuck arms on it too. Becomes less of a pet rock and more of a rock creature.

Alternatively, why would Clippy be a bad Pokemon?

Give them all a Ghost Typing, shroud the region in eternal night and then make the player figure out why this is the case. At the end of the game night turns to day and suddenly completely different Pokemon appear allowing you to explore the region again in the postgame.

Sounds like a pretty cool idea, tbh.

I think a mix is better only because I find there's a greater risk of really bad designs going down that route.
