I had a member say to me the other day that avatars from certain anime or shows are not allowed, even if they are not showing anything "offensive" or sexual in nature. Even if it's a character from x anime in a normal position or stance, it's not permitted simply because it derives from x.

    Is this true?

And what if you don't know an anime girl, for example, is a character in hentei, ecchi or some sexist, violent and overly-sexualized series? I get a lot of my avatars from a random site. I haven't even watched most of 'em.

That said, pretty much every anime is either violent or sexual in some way. Where could the line be drawn, if ever? And would that make Breaking Bad inappropriate because the series is about violence, drugs, etc.?

And what about avatars that depict things that large populations might find offensive? How is that any different if those are allowed to be purposefully expressed, especially in contrast to anime avatars (where the origins are often dubious)?

    Just curious :pink_nod:
Yeahhhh, that logic doesn't make sense to me either. For example, someone might use an image of a celebrity. Say that celebrity has has been in erotic scenes in films that might be 18+, but not necessarily "porno". An example might be Halle Berry, who has been in movies marked for 18+ and has been in such scenes. Now, staff would never disable that avatar on the premise that the image of Halle Berry isn't pornographic, or in any indecent. So I do not believe that we would do the same for any anime character even if they were known for "hentai".

Rule of thumb: if the avatar isn't offensive or break our rules, it's fine. We don't have a rule against using imagery of characters who have been in 18+/Rated R scenes or movies, but we do have one that disallows nudity/violent/indecent material. So long as it doesn't contain any of the latter you're totally fine.

For the record, if you have anybody other than staff telling you that something is against the rules, it's considered mini-modding. It generally isn't their call to say if something is right or wrong at all.

In a case like offensive avatars and/or signatures, it's usually looked at by the higher staff after being reported to them.

  • So why can I not search for the users that posted in a specific thread if I click the number of posts? Right now i'm getting a message that while nice, is not what I clicked on it for. Is this meant to be an early April Fools prank, or did I do something to provoke that right from me?

What theme are you using? It works fine for me on Route 167+.

  • Y-Axis. And I guess it might have just been a Valentine's thing actually, but still...

I'm using Y-Axis now and it works for me. I guess I can check with an admin for you to see if there's something up. Can you please screenshot what it shows you so I can show them? Thank you.

It's doing the same for me, I'm using Color Flattered X. Switched to a random one(The Stand Nexus), and it says the same thing. It could be a permissions error, since a moderator can see it, but Pendraflare and I can't.

I've let the appropriate staffers know. :) Hope we can fix it for ya soon.

  • I guess I should mention that I get the same error when I try to access the IRC chat through the link at the bottom of the index. Dunno if that'll help pinpoint the problem, but thought I'd bring it up since it says the same thing, aaaand this wasn't happening there a day or two ago -w-

  • I'm using 'Forever Standing' as my theme and I am getting that error as well when I try to use the Open Chat feature. Just a confirming that, there is an issue. (Though it is a funny error message.)

It's been looked at and it's an error with permissions for some members. You're all crystal tier it seems, so if any OTHER crystal tiers can let me know that the error is happening to them as well (or anyone else, differently tiered), please do! It could help an admin pinpoint the issue.

  • Just a quick question, How do I get it so it shows am online on Skype(on my pokecommunity profile/ next to my avatar on a post)? Ive added my account on my (pokecommuninty)profile, but it says am offline even though am online. When I click the skype logo, then click "Im Offline" speech bubble which leads me to sign in on skypes own site, after signing in there it still says am offline.

On your Skype window, go to Tools > Options > Privacy Settings > Select "Allow my online status to be shown on the web" > Save~
