The
Heroes rested upon the boat in relative peace. The sleep was long and they were so deep into the Dungeon that it was almost impossible to tell whether it was day or night on the surface. Exhaustion took hold of them between the fighting and chaos and that seemed the appropriate resting time.
The
Barkeep beckoned for three among them to join him. He offered them each a glass of clear liquid and raised one of his own. They clinked their cups and drank before the
Barkeep passed a bottle of the same clear liquid to the others. They each drank deeply and passed the bottle around several more times before all three suddenly passed out. The
Barkeep smiled maliciously. They'd definitely feel this when they woke up. He closed his eyes and slipped into rest as well, but his own machinations were now in play.
The
Crone had managed to sneak aboard undetected. She drew forth from a pouch at her hip a handful of maggots. She toothily grinned as she opened the mouth of one of the now-passed out drinkers, pouring the foul maggots into his mouth.
"My delicate man, you have no idea the pain you will cause on the morrow."
Back above several floors, the
Necromancer dug through the grave of Melody, who had fallen some time before. The Evil one grabbed at flesh, ripping it from the bone, and tasting it raw.
"Strength growsssss. The powersssss inside me."
Back at the boat, the
Highwayman cleaned his flintlock pistol. He eyed GreyBidoof suspiciously. Something didn't seem right about him. No...nothing did at all. He stood and aimed the pistol at the
Man-at-Arms. GreyBidoof stood, fearful.
"What the hell is this?!" he shouted. Other
Heroes stirred from their sleep.
"You! You can't be trusted!" screamed the
Highwayman, who fired the pistol, striking GreyBidoof in the chest. He fell backwards, injured, but not dead.
The entire group was up now, shouting and stomping their feet in protest. Stress seemed to be taking hold of the entire party. The sounds and shouts shook the boat...or...something else was.
The
Kraken stirred underneath the
Heroes, panicked and angered at the intrusion of its long-claimed chamber. It grasped hold of the boat, flipping it on its side. Several of those on the boat fell into the water, not realizing what was happening. The
Kraken grabbed hold of them, dragging them deep beneath the surface of the water, squeezing their bodies in fury.
Amidst the chaos, many of the
Heroes had found the shoreline and began pelting the tentacles with rocks, arrows, and potions. The beast roared in furious anger, tossing the hostages it held against the rocks on the shore before it slunk deep into the waters again, the boat capsized and sinking.
The beast was returning to its slumber now. The intruders were leaving through another passageway hurriedly, but what awaited them beyond the stairs... was perhaps worse than what was behind them.
