[Event] The PokeCommunity Game-Along V: The Gaming Strikes Back

Hoo boy am I bad at fighting games. I played Sailor Moon S (longer title in JP but I think English internet just calls it that) and it was a struggle to even beat story mode with one character so I bumped it down to the easiest setting and still struggled until I found a character whose combos I meshed with. And then it took me like 15 minutes total which didn't feel satisfying or like I'd actually accomplished anything. Long story short, I ended up clearing story mode on all characters and even bumped the difficulty up to, well, still only easy but better than very easy lmao. Counting it as my clear though!

Since I finished Melee in like 10 minutes, I decided to play a while longer and unlock some of the characters as well. (I wiped the memory card so I could start a new run)
Turns out I actually really don't like the way Melee controls, so I had a much worse time with it than I was expecting. The one genuinely fun thing I got to do, was watch a 4 way 300% battle between 4 Falcos. Always a good time lol.

I think I'm done with Soul Blade. What a nice nostalgic journey. I love the intro so much. I beat the regular Arcade mode and the "story" mode with Rock and then did some Survival and Time challenges with different characters like Siegfried and Voldo. That's all the game has to offer, so I think I can check it as completed.

August - Riddle Me This

See, if I was more awake, I would make this a riddle. But I'm tired and still recovering from Get-Together, so you're not getting that. Imagine how fun and cool it would have been if I had done that though? If only there was another way to capture that magic. Oh... wait. I know!

This month the theme is puzzles. The game you choose to play must have gameplay largely built around some sort of puzzle solving mechanic or mechanics.

Would you be willing to accept VVVVVV as a puzzle platformer? Thought it could be a good fit for something a little more interesting with the theme.

With a theme name like that it makes me want to play a Batman game lmao, but sadly I don't think any of those are made with puzzles in mind...
Instead I'll go with Peggle, provided that passes the puzzle game check. (specifically Peggle Deluxe, if that matters)

Feels like a stretch but its description calls it a puzzle game so sure.

Can't believe I missed the fighting games one I'm going to sob violently.

I think we'll go for Kula World as the game of choice! Cute little platform puzzler, move a beach ball around little levels. Nice wind-down from GT madness lol.

I'm going to play Pandora's Box. I've had this game ever since I was a kid but always had trouble with the later puzzles, so I'm going to see if I can get them all done now that I'm an adult.

I am also playing Infinifactory! Actually I played a bit and I can tell this is a game I'm gonna want to pick away at over months when I'm bored.

Playing while True: learn() instead!

Beat the Curse of Monkey Island. Forgot how good the writing was. Tried a little too hard sometimes, but still good.

Was not a fan of the puzzles at all. (Chose the harder difficulty. Skips puzzles and dialogue by doing the easy version. Intended easy mode to be for quick reviews.) Knew the end goal or several steps down the chain sometimes, but not how to get to that point. Example: getting the gold tooth.
Spoiler: Puzzle solution

Problem: Needs to find something valuable. Expected it to be the gold tooth (correctly). Found the reservation ticket to get into the building and stay there.

Talked to Blondebeard (who had the golden tooth). Probably mentioned wanting something crunchy. What do you need to get? A jawbreaker from Bill. (Does not consider that a crunchy food.) Recalls the dialogue about the jawbreaker sticking around in Bill's dialogue options, to the game's credit. Indicates something important.

How do you get the jawbreaker? By pushing Bill. Did not know how to bring up the action menu, at this point. (Hold left-click. Failed to mention that in the controls.) Meant using 'U', which is the Use button. Pushed Bill, who begins choking. Coughed up the jawbreaker. +1 jawbreaker.

Gave the jawbreaker to Blondebeard, then some gum. Popped the bubble he blew with a pin. Sent the tooth flying across the room. Picked it up. Tried to leave...but no. Confiscates the tooth from you.

Saw the window in the building. Tried throwing the tooth out the window. Cannot do that. What are you supposed to do?
  1. Chew some gum yourself with T...mainly for Talk, before now. (Used T to blow a balloon away earlier.)
  2. Combine the chewed gum and tooth.
  3. Inhale some helium from a balloon you had since the start of the game. (Maybe T also?)
  4. T the gum + tooth to blow a bubble. Conveniently floats out the window and into a mud puddle outside.
  5. Pan for gold with your pie pan. (Figured that out before everything.)

Congratulations. Obtained the gold tooth.

Liked the game overall. Recommends watching it over playing it, however.

I finished the adventure mode in Peggle Deluxe. Absolutely wonderful game. Hard as shit unless you're super into angles and probably mathematical equations or something lol.
But it was really fun regardless! (and WOW I wish I had a screen recording of some of those insane shots I did lol)

Just finished VVVVVV! I didn't go for all the trinkets, but managed to get over half just by playing normally, and Doing Things the Hard Way was a challenge I really wanted to do. The platforming near the end especially was really interesting and kinda melted my mind in the best way, and I thought it was a fun little challenge that didn't overstay its welcome! I know posting proof or whatever isn't necessary, but since the game gave me my stats at the end I thought it'd be fun to include them in this post.

Pandora's Box is cleared. Overall, it's an OK game with some good music, but not something I'd recommend to someone without any nostalgia for the game in the first place.
