Am I the only person that finds this disappointing?

According to the Pokémon website, compatibility between Pokémon Scarlet, Pokémon Violet, and Pokémon HOME is slated for spring 2023. I was hoping that Pokémon HOME and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet would be compatible upon launch so that I could transfer some of my favorites to begin my journey, but I guess if I want to play that way, I have to wait until the spring. I would still try to find a way around it though.

How do you feel about this?

Well... it's not the first time they do it. Remember when X/Y came out and we had to wait around six months for Pokémon Bank to release so that we could transfer Mons from Generation V to Generation VI/VII? It's the same case here. What makes it egregious this time, however, is that HOME is already out there and has been for a long time, so yeah, I don't see the point of taking so long for both apps to be compatible.

It's not fair, but it's become standard practice over at Game Freak.

Does not mind, personally. Usually waits to transfer Pokemon for playthroughs until at least the third. (First: Normal playthrough. Second: More restrictions. Tries to leverage the first playthrough's knowledge. Third+: No clue.)

Delays filling the Pokedex, possibly. Finds that a bit annoying. May be faster to breed in Sword/Shield than find a time-based or high rarity encounter.

Personally not that disappointed. If memory serves, back in gen6 we waited a very long time to get whatever past gen transfer app we got (I remember it was slated to release two months after XY but after the eshop crashed, it was delayed).

And I personally don't have intentions to bring my older mons into the new games, so there.

Honestly, this is how it always is with every single new generation, so I'm not disappointed. Transfer compatibility is never a thing right away. In fact, in the earlier games, Generation IV and V, you had to have already beaten the entire game before you even could. And, tbh, I don't think I'll be transferring my new Pokemon in, anyway...I never really think that far ahead.

BDSP and Legends compatibility took a while as well, so I was never expecting Scarlet/Violet to be transferable soon anyway. Neither surprise nor disappointment on my end.

I was late for Sword/Shield as I didn't get it until the Switch Lite released so idk how it was there and I never used Bank on the 3DS until I was in gen 8 and needed some stuff from previous games such as HA mons.

I feel like Kalos is what caused them to wait so long. Because I remember being able to bring over any pokemon I wanted at the start of the game with Pokemon Bank. They don't won't you to blow through the game with Lv 100 Pokemon.

But I do agree that having to wait till Spring is just way too long of a wait. I didn't think we would ever get support for Legends and BDSP.

It's unfortunate but it is to be expected at this point; Pokemon games haven't launched with backwards compatibility ever since they became separate services like Bank and Home rather than being an in-game feature.

To be honest... I'm really not sure what makes it take so long? I'm sure there's some reason, but I have always kind of suspected that maybe they intentionally hold back on Bank/Home support at launch, whether it's for game balance or to keep subscription metrics where they want them or whatever.

No. I am sad by this too! I wish they'd just release it at the same time as the game. I think by the time this is added the popularity of the game will be dwindled.

Possibly, but that might also be when they release a DLC, which might be why it will take so long. So they don't have to make a second update and saves them time.

Although the news is extremely unfortunate at least for me, I will still find a way around this issue nonetheless. I might have to engage in some early trades for my favorites, preferably as eggs, and have them hatch so that I could at least obtain them with my own trainer information. I haven't played Pokémon the "normal" way in several years and doing so is kind of boring in my opinion. I just personally believe that since we're actually paying for the Pokémon HOME service, they could at least allow us to use Pokémon HOME with the new games upon launch.

Did we really expect anything other than this? I mean with how long it took SwSh to get the support. You would think having been down this road before they'd do it differently. I mean I guess they don't want you blowing through the game with absurdly strong Pokémon which is understandable. I honestly don't mind because I want to use native Pokémon first.

The thing about that is strong Pokémon don't obey your commands. Even if they did obey, you also have to consider that not everybody buys the game upon launch. That means that the possibility exists that a person buying the game after Pokémon HOME becomes compatible with it could still use absurdly strong Pokémon in the future anyway. In any case, I don't see the problem with transferring freshly hatched level 1 Pokémon to the game to start my adventure.

Consider shiny Hisuian Zorua that you can catch around level 20. It's easily the most popular shiny Pokemon from PLA, but by the time you get it you're so late in the game that you're already done with your Hisuian adventure.

Restarting a new game is ok but starting a brand new adventure with this hard earned prize would be the best way to enjoy the fruits of your labour.

I preordered Scarlet months ago in anticipation of adventuring with shiny H Zorua. Having to wait anywhere from 4 to 6 months for Home compatibility sucks enough and makes me feel stupid for preordering the game.

Guessed that I could just start the game, let it lay dormant, and get any time-limited mystery gift while waiting. But you have to complete the game by end 2022 to get that special Charizard? FFS!

Crazy theory: the compatibility delay is for forcing shiny hunters to get Switch Online in order to complete their Pokedex for the shiny charm. That or wait 6 months to start shiny hunting.

That Charizard is also locked to those who pay for Switch Online, so I'm not going to be able to get the Charizard as I don't want to pay for online.

As for Home, it should be a 3 month wait at most for those who use it imo.

Only requires connection to the Internet, much like Max Raid events. Needs Switch Online to do so with other trainers. From the official news:

i personally don't really care. i would like to have HOME compatibility upon launch, but a few months gives me enough time to have fun with the new regional pokemon so i don't really mind much.

Yeah I'm one of those who tends to focus almost entirely on new Pokémon (so experiencing Gen V for the first time was a dream), so this doesn't bother me. I just wish they'd at least fix the transfer glitches afflicting BDSP before they link up the new generation - there has to be a way to stop Nincada triggering the clone checking at least, even if the Spinda thing is irreparable (I'm hoping its in SV, I haven't seen the leaks of the Pokédex). That said, I would absolutely love to bring an Apriball Girafarig all the way from my beloved HG save up to Gen IX and evolve it into Firagiraf ASAP!

True but the Charizard might be so strong that you need to fight it with other trainers in order to defeat it, notice this:
It will use devastatingly powerful moves in battle, so defeating it by yourself will be extremely difficult.
