How well do you recognize Pokémon game cries?

If a bunch of random Pokémon cries were played for you right now, how many do you think you would recognize? Do you recognize old gen cries better than new ones?

Very few on account of usually playing w/o sound. Ho-Oh, Jynx, Mew, Hoothoot, Kricketune...

Not many. Recognizes the older ones easier. Stopped the battle music to play the cry in the old days. Barely registers cries in the newer games.

Charmander, because it's weirdly deep for such a tiny little guy, Swampert from the amount of time I've sunk into the Hoenn games, and Skitty because it's my favorite.

Pretty well from gen 2 to gen 5. Have some doubts about gen 1 and gen 6. I played gen 7,8,9 less, I expect to be worse with their pokemon cries.

Probably next to none. Prior to the Switch I usually played with the volume on low or off.
I do play with sound on the Switch but pay zero attention to the cries =P

I can recognize cries if they were used in the title screen like in Fire Red/Leaf Green, Platinum, and Black. I feel like I recognize some of the legendary cries because of how unique they are. Like Mesprit, Dialga, Shaymin, RχUS, Creselia, Deoxys, and Lugia.

There are very few cries that I recognize, like Geodude, Graveler, Zubat, Machop, and Onix. Can you guess why?

Outside of gen 8 and 9 (which I haven't played yet), I think I can recognize most cries. I tried doing one of those quizzes for guessing gen 1 cries and I only got a few wrong.

I would likely recall the majority of generation 4 Pokemon, as it was my introductory generation to the Pokemon games, and I would say gen 4 has the most memorable cries overall. Some of my favourites include: Kricketot/Kricketune (easily the most iconic), Cherrim, Chimchar, Starly/Staravia/Staraptor, Pachirisu, Buneary, Glameow, Spiritomb, Roserade, Toxicroak, Glaceon, Leafeon, Magnezone, Togekiss, Mismagius, and Froslass.

Glaceon and Cherrim are my all-time favourites.

Of course, I can recognize the cries of many of my favourite Pokemon, such as Wurmple, Beautifly, Gardevoir, Ninetales, Milotic, and Lucario.

Some other cries that standout to me are Snivy, Salazzle, Zubat, Cottonee, Maractus, and Reshiram.

Didn't think i can recognize cries tho i did Kanto cries quiz (link) i got 5/10 better then i guessed!

Wishes it gave you more options. Figured some out by elimination. "Was that big, loud, growly cry a legendary or one of these three tiny, unevolved Pokemon? Hmm." Went badly sometimes, on the other hand, due to picking a Pokemon earlier and seeing it again later (during its actual cry).

Helps if you get Pokemon that you encounter often too. Picked out Woobat easily enough.

I know most of the Gen 3 and 4 cries by heart, as well as some of the more distinctive Gen 2 and 1 cries, mostly from various Ranger games where they would use said cries constantly. I don't immediately recognize all of the Gen 5 and 6 cries, but I do know a lot of them as well.

Gen 7, 8, and 9, I haven't played apart from a half-finished run of Shield. I got lucky in Gen 7 and 8 on mostly wild guesses, plus two Pokemon I actually used in Shield, but my luck ran out for Gen 9.

man so much of this has been ingrained into me that i'd probably recognise quite a lot of them outside of maybe Gen 9

i did try out the quiz, got the following:

I took the quiz. Hearing the sounds also made me nostalgic. I did okay. I'm not too familiar with Gen 9 though at all. I didn't even recognize some of the Pokemon. (never played the DLC).

I'm in a pretty similar situation, I can guess 95% of Gen 4-5 cries fairly easily, probably around 50-60% of Gen 6-7 cries, and not much higher than chance for the gens above that.

I'd probably recognise just about any cry from the sprite era due to how many times I've heard them over the years. Some of the newer Pokémon I don't even remember the names of, much less remember what their cries sound like.

Not at all. I almost exclusively play Pokémon games with audio turned off, so I have no idea about how some Pokémon cries sounds. I heard some, but I don't think I would be able to tell them apart.
