I joined for the cookies
Where are they? I haven't seen any cookie since I joined :(
Do you keep them all? :(

I haven't actually played too many ROM hacks or Fan games. But the ones I did play were kinda meh, including those that are consered pretty alright like Glaced.
Same. Haven't played a lot, but the ones I played + the ones I checked looked like an improved version of what Game Freak could do, while I was looking for a completely different game...
Also it took me some time to figure where to download Pokémon Essentials lol. So instead I played a lot with the scripts of Pokémon Insurgence.

239317 gaia seems interesting 🙂 i think my favourite romhacks are just the ones that make the game more challenging like gold hardtype and emerald kaizo
These are exactly the ones that I like least XD

What's a Home Office?
I have no office in the first place.... =p
For most people, it's a special room (or desk) you use to get in the mood to work from home.
For me, it's my usual desk, so I really can't work from home XD

The quality of rom hacks has gone up a ton. The ones from 2014 and before are noticeably way worse.

It's a contrast to the mainline pokemon games, although I did like sun/moon

In game dev communities there are always those type of people who have a real passion for what they do. They can come up with some really interesting stuff. I know a couple people who started out as hobby devs and eventually created their own Indie game dev studio.

239179* oh one romhack i do remember... someone brought in a "new" pokemon game at school, it was "Chaos Black" 😆really bad fakemon
and not really a romhack but i remember trying to download a rom of pokemon diamond right when it just come out and i ended up with a gbc rom called Pokemon Diamond but it was just the game Telefang 😕still i liked it lol

Probably a dream job ^^
I don't think I'll ever work for a game development studio. Even if I have some ideas for when I'm done with my fangame smh.

I've had a theory to explain this. The worse the mainline Pokémon games, the most people are disappointed. As one of the rules of the Internet says, if something doesn't exist, you have to make it yourself! :P

239184* there was a new difficult romhack released recently "inclement emerald" not sure if it's harder than emerald kaizo

At this point I don't understand what could be done to make it harder. Kaizo emerald already blocks out bag items, most battles have legendaries on the opponent team, you don't get EV's, most enemies get a permanent weather advantage, and it has a level cap so you can't overgrind.

239186* thats what i thought, i just saw it on a video on youtube "the new hardest pokemon game of 2021" probably titled that just for clicks. there are 3 difficulties normal hard and challenge, normal has no EVs, hard has EVs not sure what challenge does maybe forces a nuzlocke

Honestly I don't understand why so many people want that much difficulty in Pokémon. Pokémon games are too easy, I get it. But the difficulty settings of Kaizo Emerald that Zeo describes are just stupid. Nuzzlocke is stupid.
For me the only feature to improve to make Pokémon reasonably difficult without defeating the purpose of the games ("gotta catch them all") is to make the battle AI better. So many times an NPC uses a move that's not effective while they have a STAB or a move that's super-effective...
Let me finish my fangame and my animation plugin, I'm gonna work on the AI after.

239339 Pokemon has highly in depth mechanics, with the EV and IV systems, held items, team composition. You don't see much of this in game. I think it's a desire to see more of the mechanics without needing to play competitively, which is why hacks like Radical Red have been created.

What I don't like about challenges like Nuzlockes is how much they rely on RNG making things dificult. If you get screwed over by random chance I find that hardly challenging and to make the way out to be excessive level grinding just seems stupid to me.

Also: isn't Radical Red that hack that throws a trainer with a fully evolved twenty levels higher Pokemon at you on the second route, forcing you to grind? I saw a streamer playing that game and right at that moment they decided to just throw the game in the bin (which imo is the right response). xD

I'm not too into nuzlockes, but I'll try them on occasion. It's more fun to me playing these games casually without any sort of mental strain.

...Honestly I don't remember radical red having that kind of level jump. I'm pretty sure it has a level cap imposed on your team, so that wouldn't make much sense from a design standpoint. The game does eventually force you to EV train, because the important trainers will start using proper EV spreads and will annihilate you if you don't take the time to properly set up a team. This turned me off from the game because I didn't feel like putting in the effort.
