[Event] The PokeCommunity Game-Along VI: Return of the Gaming

March: Conundrums

I have been told that March is the month of madness. Why? No idea! But in keeping with that branding, I think it is only appropriate to select a them that could fill someone with fury and drive them to lunacy. I can think of nothing more fitting, in that case, than making puzzles the theme for March. Your game for this month does not have to be entirely puzzles, but a significant part of its core gameplay must be based around solving puzzles of some kind.

Puzzles! Would Grim Fandango count? A point and click adventure game focuses a lot on puzzles I suppose. I've never played Grim though so not sure if it counts!

It's gameplay section on Wikipedia says it involves puzzles as a core mechanic, sure.

Picks The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom for this month. Works out well. Planned to play this soon anyways.

Officially lists it as Action-Adventure. Lists solving puzzles as the second thing on the Nintendo page, right after "Play as Zelda". Seems pretty significant. Enters the game with plenty of doubts because of the heavier focus, but hey, gifts.

Yesss, I have so many puzzle games to play.

Gonna go wiiiith Return of the Obra Dinn, I think. :)

I don't think I have a lot of options this month? But I have been meaning to finish Pizcle Cross: Story of Seasons ever since the new year and I've just been putting it off, so this is my excuse to go and finish it I suppose.~

I've thought it over a while and decided on Scribblenauts Unlimited for my game of the month. I know a bit of it already from watching people mess around with mods, but I'll only be playing the 3DS version, so no funny stuff for me sadly.

Would Baldur's Gate 3 count, considering it's a very dense game with a considerable amount of puzzles?
If so, that one—I've been meaning to finally get this off my backlog as well.

I'm torn on this one because puzzles are part of the experience. I hesitate to say they are a core part of it though.

Finished the Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Did not care much for it, as expected. Was not a bad game. (Completed a lot of side-quest and exploration stuff, after all.) Simply does not enjoy that kind of thing. Had the most fun in places like the Treacherous Tower and Savage Labyrinth in Link Between Worlds and Wind Waker, respectively (a huge, multi-floor area with nothing but combat). Guess what you do not do tons of in this game.

Wrote up the usual game journal entry. Includes stats.

I finished Hitman GO. It was a pretty good puzzle game, though some of the optional objectives were very hard, especially the minimum-moves challenges. I haven't played anything in the Hitman series apart from this, so if the levels here are references to those games, I didn't get them, but everything before the reboot is in my backlog to play eventually.

I don't enjoy difficult puzzle games because they tend to have only one solution for each puzzle, and it's very irritating if I can't figure out what that is, so I don't expect to play much more like this anytime soon.

Finished Return of the Obra Dinn today and that was easily one of the best games I've ever played. Gave me the same sort of thrill that Outer Wilds did and within like 10 minutes had pretty much shot up into of my all time favourites list. It was just so, SO satisfying solving the puzzle.

I've finished with Grim Fandango!

It was really good fun, very nice storyaand characters and honestly it hadn't aged that badly considering the game is 26 years old now!
I only had to look things up once (something to do with moving an ash tray) but I'm quite happy with how well I solved the rest of the puzzles.
Onto April where I won't have a lot of time so my choice will be something small for sure!

Get ready for April's theme "games with a minimum playtime of 73 hours"

I beat Professor Layton and the Curious Village HD. It was underwhelming. While I liked the audiovisual side of it and the story and worldbuilding, the puzzles were pretty boring. I feel like strong majority of them just tested a reading comprehension. And the rest of them were simple logic or math problems.
