Celebration: Thanksgiving

This holiday is almost here in the United States, and similar harvest time gratitude-based festivals have already arrived in other corners of the world, the Thanksgiving in Canada, Erntedank in Germany, Labor Thanksgiving Day in Japan and much more.

I was wondering if any forum goers have celebrated or plan to celebrate a holiday this of thanks this year?

I am going to, and am feeling excited about it. I will start baking some pies and bread later today for the dessert at tomorrow's feast, and look forward to seeing the smiling faces of loved ones at dinner. Before I start making the main course and side dishes in the morning I'm also going to watch some of the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade, and feast my eyes on the floats.🎈

I do not, but I hope all those that do have a nice day with themselves or whoever it is they celebrate it with!

A good Thanksgiving to all! I don't celebrate it, but my best friend from the UK is spending his third Thanksgiving in the States. It must be the food. :>

I got two scratch-made pumpkin pies in the oven and later on I will make some dinner rolls from scratch!

LOVE Thanksgiving -- it is my favorite holiday besides Christmas. Not because of the food because it's less stressful. Cooking and baking are therapy for me.

I'm just very busy through the end of this year. (Lengthy driving lessons with my instructor then I have Jury Duty for the rest of the year pretty much).

I actually had to reschedule my 11/29 driving lesson because I'm fatigued. (had one today, left in the morning and didn't get home until quite late).

I like Thanksgiving but I also wouldn't mind just having the day quiet to process things.

I LOVE thanksgiving anytime i get to spend time with my family is much treasured <33 and I love the one live parade with the floats can't wait to see the pokemon one again XD!!! and while i don't have the biggest appetite, the food is always rlly tasty!!

As someone that works in a grocery store, I always dread this time of year. It's a lot of work, and the customers are ruder than usual. Mostly due to the stress that they put on themselves, like when they wait until the actual holiday to come to the store for their turkey. And then get upset that they have to stand in line for a cash register.

Holidays have always been stressful in my family as well. Again due to pressure put on people to make everything perfect for relatives that no one really talks to the entire rest of the year.

But a part of me is jealous of the people who do have good holiday seasons.

Happy Thanksgiving to anyone celebrating though!

This year my mom and I got our turkey a couple days ago (we originally weren't going to, but the lady told us a good deal on turkeys after spending x amount on groceries and took advantage of that lol). My mom has some of the turkey meat cut up and marinated ready for tomorrow, the rest stored in freezer to be used next time. We're not having anyone else visiting, so lots of turkey leftover for us lol.

We generally don't celebrate it over this side of the pond - although that doesn't stop us getting bombarded by black friday sales for some reason - but I do have a family member that joins in the festivities because he loves food and NFL 😅

I hope all those who celebrate have a wonderful Thanksgiving full of family, good food, friendship, and love ❤️

As a Canadian, I always associate Thanksgiving as an October holiday and use American Thanksgiving as something of a joke to tease any American friends I have. Thursdays are a day I'll get together with friends to play FFXIV, and I definitely both forgot it was the holiday and told my friends "well it's a holiday so you should be free to join us". I did at least get a good opportunity to tell them I'm thankful for them, regardless of country.

In terms of Canadian Thanksgiving, it's usually nothing too interesting. It's an excuse to eat lots of food, the typical kind of Thanksgiving Dinner, (I'm especially a sucker for pumpkin pie) but back home it's more of just a pain for me, being one of those holidays where I'm being pushed to interact with family members I want nothing to do with. Since it's sort of that thing that's just kinda celebrated just because "it's tradition, that's what you do", and the negatives can sometimes outweigh the positives, it's not something I often find myself looking forward to. Halloween and Christmas are always way more exciting this time of year.

Though, Canada Day is the first of July, it's not really celebrated around this time of year..?

Whoopsie! Was thinking of your Canadian Thanksgiving day, the one that was in October. 🤣 Thanks for the heads up. Lemme edit and get us in the right season at least. I hope your sweet pumpkin pie was extra good this year, and you got to de-stress with some friends because I know Thanksgiving can be a little much sometimes too. BTW I also love Halloween!

I'm definitely not late in responding to this thread lol

I went back home for my Thanksgiving break, which I mostly spent trying to work on final projects. Not very fun. Thanksgiving itself was the same as usual. We always go to my grandma's house and she makes all the food. It's usually just my family, our aunt and cousins, and my grandma (unless there's other family in state, which usually isn't the case). I'm glad it's just a small crowd - I don't think I could deal with a lot of people at a family gathering. We do holiday dinners a bit differently- we usually have a lunch rather than a dinner. We'll take plates of food home when we're about to leave and have them the next day.
