When playing a Pokemon game, do you prefer your Player to have your real name or give him/her another name?

I am female but I always make my character male, I usually go with the OG name like Brendan for ORAS but in X/Y I just went with names I liked at the time, Joel and Lucas

I usually give my character my real name, or some variation of it (Catherine, Cathy, Cat, etc.), but I named myself Sopheria in Alpha Sapphire so that it's easier to distinguish between which Pokemon that I caught in OR and which ones I caught in AS.

I always name my trainer KB3. That's the first ever alias I went by, on SPPf. I traded/battled with the community there somewhat often, so it made sense to name my in-game character after my forum username.

I also do that because I don't feel a connection with avatars at all, so using my real name - Anton - is slightly weird for me. I'm really used to KB3 now, anyway.

I use my real name for my main file which is Alfieri. I use my middle name Ronnie for other files and then random girl names if I use a female character.

Every player of mine is named after me. Regardless of the gender. Although the boys getting my name is usually done when there's no choice for me to pick between (like in the first games). I feel like if I picked a male character in a newer game, he might get a different name.

...Or he might just get the same name, because I am very unimaginative when it comes to that.

I like using my name, so I do that half the time. The other half I keep in theme with what I will name my Pokemon and my rival. Most of the time it's either Lucas (my name) or Lucius (similar to my name and used for 2 different themes).

I usually name my player Stalex, which is a combination of my first and middle names (yes Alexander is actually my middle name). I was given that in high school and since then started naming my Pokémon characters after it. I'd switch to Alex nowadays, but it's kinda been a tradition of mine so I stuck with it :P

I name it after myself. Sometimes I roleplay a bit and name it something random. My rival is always a name of a friend, but slightly changed.
However, in spin-offs I always roleplay. I go with whatevs.

    Male: Ryan
    Female: Lara

None of the two are actually my real name. They established themselves as my goto names in the games at some point and I don't know why. xD
I Always name the same name since the first game I played which is Amy.
So, is that your name, or is it just one that you came up with back then?
I've been giving the character my real name as of late, but usually, it's anything that comes to mind.
Which names where you usually using? Do they adhere to certain themes, or are they completely random?

Most times I just name the character Astinus, unless there's a particular different name I have in mind. Like the X/Y male player character will always be named Michael (and blond), or the G/S/C/HG/SS male player character is always Tetsuo. The female characters get their default names because those are the names that fit them.

I've never given any characters my real name, now that I've thought about it. Weird.

I've used different human names throughout the years (Alice, Scarlett, Brian, Jasmine, Angel, Hazel, Nicole, etc). Very rarely have I used a more symbolic name (Blade, Athena, Lilith, Echo). I can't think of a time when I used the same name for more than 1 file because each file is a new adventure to me. If I did re-use a name, it would be Blue for Pokemon Blue haha.

My real name will forever be a mystery.

It also depends on the character too. I usually play as the girl character, so I usually use a variation of Cat/Catherine, but sometimes I might name the player after characters (Probably my own, maybe one or two from media) and definitely if I play as a different gender (haven't happened yet though).

I've always named the character after myself. My first game was Emerald, and my second one was LeafGreen. For the latter, I used all caps in my name unlike the regular capitalization I did in Emerald, to not only easily differentiate my two trainer IDs between them, and to follow the theme of important words (moves, people, Pokémon, places, items, etc.) being written in all caps back then. Nowadays, I always use regular capitalization.
