I am just curious about your guy's religious and economic beliefs. Not looking for any sort of debating or controversy, just curious.

I am a Pentecostal Christian and Republican, Used to be all over the place, but times change. What about you guys?

Religion: I don't really care who you are or what you follow, so long as you don't shove it in my face. I personally regard Arceus as my god, because nobody's debating the existence of, or going to war over, a purposely fake god.

Economy: Conservative leaning to Socialist. I believe in the free market and wanting to get rich, but getting rid of regulations is intolerable. And a government who won't help the financially unfortunate is not worthy of acting as a government at all.

I've always been an atheist. Never was brought up with religion, and I've never felt like turning to it in my life. It's mostly due to the lack of anything remotely convincing to me that there is any of the specific deities that humans have worshipped and that they are exactly like what various old books and scrolls say they are, as well as how I don't think I'd really get out of religion what it does for some people, I doubt that going to a house of worship is suddenly gonna make me happy in life.

As for politics.....I don't have a more specific label than that I'm some degree of "left". Left in the U.S. for many people means Democrat, but I'm not a Democrat (official registration aside) since I'm not fond of the Democrats, as they're not really on the left, they're neoliberal centrists and a part of the problem with this country.

  • I'm not afraid to say that I am a Christian (Baptist) but I am more liberal-minded when it comes to politics. I do not believe religion should affect your political beliefs at all, and vice-versa.

  • Technically, I'm a Taoist, but I tell people I'm an atheist, cause there's just not enough hours in the day! 😅

As for political beliefs... I really don't like discussing politics with friends : )

I will say this though... I won't stand by and watch anyone be oppressed, dehumanised, discriminated against, or shamed, for the colour of their skin / their nationality / gender / sexuality / favourite colour / religion / disability / whatever. If you have unfounded hate for a whole demographic, don't bring it anywhere near me, or we might not be friends for too long.

Same goes for those of us (I tick a fair few demographic boxes myself) that use their own marginalisation as an excuse to hate others. Treat everyone with respect. If someone hurts you, then feel free to dislike them as an individual, but don't take it out on their innocent brothers and sisters.

I believe in treating people with compassion and kindness, unless they do something to hurt or oppress others. Then I will fight against their hatred as hard as I can muster, while still trying not to hurt them back. After all, if they're horrible people, then why on earth would I want to be just like them?

  • As far as my poitical views are concerened, I am neither a Republican or a Democrat. I don't think political parties should exist and it is actually ruining America. Blindly following either side, agreeing with every view just because it is "your side" is the most asinine shit I have ever heard of and it leads to so much hatred. During the election, my dad was literally talking about civil war because he is an unhinged man (with far too many guns) and lost his mind over Trump losing the election. I have since cut all ties with him because of many, many reasons but this was the tipping point.

I am opposed to nearly everything Social Conservatism stands for but that doesn't mean I won't vote for a Republican if I think they are the best person for the job. I don't think religion should be taught in school, I am pro gun control, pro choice, pro same sex marriage, and I don't support abstinence-only sex education.

  • I don't know if it's really throwing a wrench into this thread, but honestly, I sort of don't know what I am in terms of beliefs?

In terms of religion I've never really had anything I've believed in. I wasn't really raised with a religion or introduced to one (the closest I got was someone trying to hand me a bible, though that's less of a religious thing in my head and just a funny story about some guy on a bus). I've sorta never felt the need to, I've thought of the whole after-death thing and always thought "hey reincarnation would be pretty sweet" but never worked out my thoughts. Is that atheism? I'm not really sure.
I hear often religion is a big cause of LGBT+ issues but knowing what religion people are has never affected that for me as well. I've come out to friends not even knowing their religion, and whenever I hear it from friends it's usually not a big deal and the most I'll say is "Oh, you're this? Neat."

With politics and economical stuff, I'm shamefully unaware of what's going on around me and can admit to that. I'm voting age but only recently had someone actually explain to me how voting in my country works, and I know nothing about pretty much any political discussion or government in my country. Social media feeds me a little information about America's politics, but I just occasionally skim through that. Maybe I should clarify, I'm not American.

Generally, I basically just keep to myself and go with what I want. The boundaries for things like these seem pretty thick, like there's a very defined yes or no, and I've never really paid much attention to care about that. I don't go looking for answers. I'm just Aisaka.

  • Protestant Christian, but I spend little time with religion. I'll pray and be thankful but I don't go to church nor do I talk about it as it's rather inappropriate here.

For politics, I'm a leftist. In my country, I support the NDP, or New Democratic Party. You can google it. If there's more than one just google Jangmeet Singh.

  • Is that atheism? I'm not really sure.

Far be it from me to tell you what your beliefs are, but try looking up apatheism. You sound like you'd fit in that ballpark.

For me personally, I'm agnostic (maybe with some apatheism in there myself lol) when it comes to religion. I don't know if there's a god or gods and I don't think we will ever be able to prove or disprove the notion. I'm all for religious freedom and think people can worship what they want, but I don't think religion should be forced on anyone, nor do I think it should inform as much as it does or that belief should be allowed to override fact. I very strongly disagree with using religion as a tool to manipulate people or for personal gain though, doing that makes you among the worst of the worst.

Economically/politically, I consider myself a democratic socialist. I'm not about to slip into communism, I'm all for people maintaining personal ownership and personal wealth. However, I think many raw resources should be communally owned by society via the state, that things like education and healthcare should be completely free and that personal wealth shouldn't impact your access to either in any way. I also think that the market should be extremely heavily regulated and that past a certain point, an individual's excess wealth should be cycled back into social programs and the like so people don't just have money sitting there not doing any good.

I'm don't practice or follow any religions but I wouldn't say I'm an atheist either; I guess I've never put enough thought into religion or spirituality to say for sure where I'd land on that spectrum. It's hard to put a label on something that I'm unsure about I guess? I went to a Church of England primary school, but that never really forced religion on us, and I never really spent much time questioning anything or trying to establish my own beliefs. I think in general people should just be allowed to believe what they believe.

Politically I'm on the left :femme2:

  • my religious beliefs are... weird. i was raised christian (anglican/espiscopal) but my parents were never strict about reading the bible, prayer, going to church, etc. i used to go to church when i was very little, but after a certain age my parents thought it was best for me to form my own religious beliefs, and so, stopped taking me to church every sunday. i think this was the only good thing they ever did in terms of parenting, but anyway, after that my religious beliefs became very complicated and still are. i was an atheist, then dabbled in laveyan satanism, then considered polytheism for a while, but as of right now i'm pretty agnostic. i do believe there could be a higher power, but i dont understand it nor know what it is. there are a lot of happenings in this world that just can't be explained with science alone in my book. i do have some spiritual beliefs. i believe in reincarnation, and spirits/ghosts/the paranormal. i also believe in some magic, mainly divination and tarot reading. i have my own tarot deck that i do occasionally consult from time to time.

in terms of political beliefs, i'm very much anti-capitalist. i'd say i'm more marxist than anything else, with some leanings towards anarcho-communism. i think, like my religious beliefs, its very complicated.

  • born roman catholic, but like Sandalphon i spend little time attending to it. i don't make it part of my identity at all, unlike the droves of ultra devout folks i constantly encounter here. i actually used to be atheist for a while, until i realized it was scary to literally just have myself and no one else, especially in those times when i have no one to talk to. God at this point, for me, is just someone i can talk to who can calm me down in rough situations. i pray every now and then, but i don't go to church or do the rosary or anything. i believe just believing in Him is enough.

and i'm lefto as well in terms of political inclination. it all stems from what i've been taught in uni. tbh i'm so glad i went there out of all places.

  • Religion wise I'm Roman Catholic, born and raised. But I tend to take a bit more of a modern approach to the religion so while I still actively attend Mass and receive Communion, which it comes to the actual system of beliefs endorsed by the Church, I'm not afraid to deviate if I think the officially endorsed beliefs are outdated.

As for political beliefs, I'm kinda all over the place so the label I tend to go with is "moderate" just because it's less likely to spark a several hour long argument with people where I live. I majored in Political Science and actively work in political communications so my beliefs are constantly shifting as I'm presented with new information and I just tend to take stuff on a case by case basis. I spend a lot of time researching candidates and vote for the person I think will do the best job regardless of party.

    I think we're all a big simulation.

Politically, I agree with gimmepie on most points, I think. Excess wealth - not used towards saving the planet from climate crisis, in particular - is one major thing that ruins the world.

  • I'm an atheist. I will gladly concede that we don't know what happens once we die, and while I will gladly think about and consider alternatives other than the logical "you die and that's it, game over no continues" [since we're just made of the same organic matter, being reused over and over, maybe we are all part of the same consciousness and we are all beings, and we just take turns in being each different body? or just some at a time, kind of like reincarnation but weird? who knows], what I do know is that any organised religion is a bunch of aesop tales designed to teach morals to people in older times that greedy and ambitious people have used for centuries to grab money from believers and impose their opinions on others arguing that, uh "god said so".

I'm a social-democrat, dues-paying member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party; but I have sometimes voted for the Communist Party of Spain, which, despite its name, is a democratic-socialist party [and both are currently in a coalition government in Spain, yay us]. I'm somewhere around the point where you switch the word order, but for practical reasons I understand that gradual progress in ensuring equality, removing unchecked power from companies and the church and helping the less well-off is preferable to staying in meaningless opposition hoping for a revolution while the conservatives make things worse for all, so that's why I opt for social-democrat first and foremost.

  • I'm a Christian, but I will admit I am far from being a perfect Christian since I do watch lots of movies that are advised only to be watched by adults. Though I will admit that I try to ignore the profanity in said movies. I also am a big fan of Christian movies as well. Also for the non believers here, I don't plan on pushing my beliefs on others and that is out of respect for most people here and that also includes politics based on religious beliefs.

I will vote for either party, as I view myself as an independent.

What I have said about my views in this post is pretty much something I want to do from here on out.

  • Agnostic, not much to say there. Don't know whether there's a god/gods out there and doubt we'll be able to prove that anytime soon.

    Oh man, here we go.

I consider myself an atheist, because I often hate what religion does to nations, and families, and such as far as fighting in concerned. Growing up, a close friend's family was aggressively Christian, and they drilled into her that everything she did was only because she had Jesus on her side. Nothing was ever of her own talent. You could tell she tolerated them, but for herself, she saw her own strengths the older she got. Another friend's family cut me out of my friend's life very harshly because they found out I was gay (and thats against god, you see), and my boyfriend's family was completely torn apart by Catholic guilt, and it gave him some very serious depression issues over the years.

I always watched all this wondering what was so great about religion after all that.

Though, I would say I'm also agnostic, because I would like to believe there's something, and I have prayed in extreme situations before. If so many people believe and find good in it, then I would like to find some good in it as well.

  • I'm an atheist and non-religious. I was raised as a Christian, but thankfully not a conservative one. I tried my best, but it never clicked for me and I never saw a reason to believe in God for myself. Eventually I realized that there wasn't a reason to believe in general and now here I am. Although I can't also deny how essential being LGBT and a woman was also to my deconversion. As a child I had been programmed with "Christian = Good", but when I saw how the Bible and a large portion of Christians treated women and LGBT people I was completely and utterly disgusted. Grasping with the question of how a good God could ever be involved in the Bible was the final straw for me.

My political views could probably be taken from the above. I am very liberal and consider myself at least a little leftist. If I were to be blunt, I find conservatism to be immoral and cruel, with Trumpism really showing conservatism for what it is. I could give a long list of why I am liberal, leaning leftist.

  • Religion

I'm an atheist because I feel that many religions don't have the complete answer on certain things and I want to seek knowledge all by myself. I'm not very fond of organized religion. I come from a Catholic country, which is Poland, and the Church is very corrupt there.

I don't have a problem if someone is religious as long they respect my beliefs.

    Politics

I'm a libertarian socialist. I hate authoritarianism, imperialism, colonialism and capitalism. I believe that people should live freely without being oppressed by the state and capitalism.
