You have to give up one sense

You have to give up one of your five major senses (yes I know there's more than five) which one would be willing to lose?

I'd just give up my hearing or taste, tbh. Wouldn't be too bothered if I couldn't hear because subtitles exist. Wouldn't be too bothered if I lost my taste, either, because maybe it'd be easier for me to eat some foods if I can't taste it.

I absolutely would not want to lose my sight, though. I would never be willing to give that up. I wouldn't be able to go online anymore since I don't know braille. Closed captions are cool and all, but I can't picture anything in my head it's black in there if I try to imagine things.

A few years ago, if I asked this questions, I'd have 100% answers "sense of touch" but I'm going to be honest: nowadays? No. Don't feel that way. I actually think it'd be pretty dangerous to give that one up. Imagine if you're cooking, and you accidentally cut yourself when cutting some food. You wouldn't know because you can't feel it. So, in this day and age, to that, I honestly say no.

Smell, I'm indifferent to. I'd give up the sense of smell but there are certain smells I do like, so I'd be a little begrudged about it.

I'd give up my sense of taste. I love to hear because I love music. I love to see because shirtless men, (me) writing, and art all exist. I love to feel because... Well, sexual reasons mostly, if I'm honest. I love to smell because I love candles, essential oils, and potpourri. But tasting food? Food tastes good, sure, but if I couldn't taste food, I'd probably be able to lose weight more effectively. I say that's already worth any detractors.

Smell, because it's smells that make me sick, not looking at the thing.

I'd probably be fine with losing any of smell, taste, or touch really. Not sure which one I'd pick, though I lean towards losing taste the least and smell the most.

Losing sight sounds like a living hell, humans are dependent on our ability to see more than any other sense, and I can't imagine living while blind. Losing hearing is more manageable, but still much more impactful than smell/taste/touch could probably ever be, so I'd prefer not to go deaf either.

Smell. Assumes no loss of taste as a result.

In rough order, from least willing to lose to most:

Sight: Big no. Loses a lot of pleasure and functionality from sacrificing this. Would be difficult to choose between Sight and the other four combined.
Hearing: Minds this less than most, probably. Values it for safety purposes. Bestows some pleasure as well.
Touch: Wants this purely for safety, as stated above.
Taste: Not a terrible choice. Enjoys food enough to not want to pick it. Detects off-flavors indicating spoiled food not necessarily picked up by other senses.
Smell: Guards against some perils (such as gas leaks). Protects against the fewest number of threats...probably. Never savored scents much.

Sokka: It's so dark in here. I can't see a thing!
Toph: Oh no, how horrible!

I wouldn't mind just losing my hearing entirely. My hearing has become worse with age. Also, my ears keep ringing off and off. I'd just want it all to stop and hear nothing. :( There aren't too many sounds in the world I'd miss. I'd miss the taste/smell of food too much. I'd want to feel hugs and warmth. The last sense I'd want to lose is my sight...

Talking. I'm already pretty good at ASL.

That's not a sense! :P

For me, taste or smell because they're often inconvenient lol.

Oh yeah… I guess you're right! Hearing then? Idk.

Smell since I already have had almost no sense of smell my entire life. I heard not being able to smell reduces how nice food tastes but it still tastes great to me so I'm not upset with no smell :D

in a way, i feel like smell is a cop-out answer lmao

My weak stomach says otherwise. :c
EDIT: It's weird though, I can look at the grossest things, but if it smells bad, I get profoundly sick. Still, since smell and taste are linked, would the removal of smell remove taste?

On that topic, anyone else find eating more of a chore when you lose taste from a cold/flu? ;;

Taste is the answer I spring to first, but even then it'd be heart-breaking since I enjoy food so much! Still, at least I wouldn't focus on eating sweets/junk food - I could eat whatever healthy food I needed without having to taste it.

Smell is important to me because particular smells can trigger such lovely memories that would otherwise be lost. I genuinely do like to stop and smell the roses!

Living without touch would feel strange, disturbing and dangerous, so not that! I'd also hate to lose it for reasons of intimacy, as CiCi mentioned above.

Losing my hearing would be a terrible ordeal, I'd have to relearn so many things and I'm already jumpy without things sneaking up on me all the time. There are too many sounds I'd miss.

The one sense I'd never wish to lose is my sight. Not just for vital practical reasons, but because nearly all the joy I gain from life comes from my ability to perceive its beauty with my own eyes.

Taste, that way I'd have no more excuse to stay away from healthy food I don't have the palate for. I shall eat solely for sustenance and nothing else.

Oh this is a toughie. I don't know the specific interaction between smell and taste, so I think for the sake of being able to consume things I normally wouldn't that would benefit me, I'll say I'd forego taste.

I also feel it's the least dangerous to lose? Losing your sight/hearing completely will make things incredibly difficult and not being able to sense when something has potentially harmed you without realising it (sitting on a pin, etc.) I can't imagine to be great either and not being able to smell stuff like smoke, carbon monoxide and the like probably ain't great either.
